Imagine 'For Just One Day'........

Books are always an easy treat for me to buy the boys when we are out and about; and while shopping the other day online at Kido Store I discovered this beautiful new book by Laura Leuck with the divine illustrations by Marc Boutavant....my favorite children's illustrator of this generation! A delightful story about imagination and the wonderful game of pretend every child loves to play.

Flynn and Arch had a friend, Ned, over the other day after school and all three sat down to read 'For Just One Day' for something to do. They spent ages elaborating on the creatures in the book.....and making up new things to be....Monsters, Aliens, Spooky Ghosts and Space men! I think I even heard Archer claim 'I want to be Captain Shaggy!'. 

Most likely due to the fact they were sitting in their super comfy Monster Couture bean bags .....Ned put a dibs on being 'Bat Star' and Flynn decided he didnt care as he was the 'biggest Monster of all....Giant Scary Monster!'

Monster Fun with Snakes and Ladders

I just had to share with you this exciting find from our Sunday afternoon clean out of the games cupboard! Clif's mum had lovingly saved this Giant Snakes and Ladder game from when he was a child back in the early 70's. It is just beautiful with its colours and original art work from the Jigsaw Educational Toys brand. With a little search on the web I discovered to my delight that Jigsaw still exists and is still true to their retro flavour...if you are wanting to buy the new version of this giant snakes and ladder game visit their site here .

We had a ball playing the game and a few tears too....the boys are still at an age when going backwards too many times in a game can prove to be a bit too much! As our Giant Snakes and Ladder game is made from paper and lovingly taped up in some areas it might be time to invest in a new plastic version as i dont think I can bear for it to be ripped any more.

We kept it relaxing by waiting our turn sitting in our Monster Couture bean bags ; Bat Star and Captain Shaggy were playing too! A fitting role play as the boys kept calling this their Monster game....and ended up loveing the snakes even though they took them backwards in the game...poor Captain Shaggy lost his turn and Bat Star ended up the winner!

Monster Couture Masks to make for Halloween!

The Monster Couture bean bag photo shoot was so much fun for the kids. We made up some Bat Star masks as props for the day, Josh and Zac had a great time dressing up and playing Monsters which made the shoot relaxed and so much fun! When they asked if they could keep the masks for their dress ups I was delighted.

Now in the need for some more masks, the boys (Flynn and Archer) and I have been busy this week making masks for Halloween. I wanted to share with you some samples of what we have made....so far....

Bat Star Mask re created by popular demand! I have made up a pattern for you to follow with this downloadable PDF, Bat Star Halloween Mask .

Captain Shaggy was a must for Archer, he loves him! So I felt it only fair to provide you with a pattern for this one too, downloadable PDF, Captain Shaggy Halloween Mask.

This skull man mask was an experiment based on the instructions for Flynn and Archer....as you can see he has been well loved and worn already in their fabulous games of scary monsters and 'lets play Halloween trick or treat ', before the big event! So far any treats they have come asking for have been apples, cheese sticks and mangos!!

Halloween with Clifford.....the Big Red Dog!

Isn't it funny how the simple things stick with you from when you were a child. One of my fondest memories is reading the Clifford the Big Red Dog books by Norman Birdwell. I think I read them for a MS readathon one year! When I cleared out my book shelf at mums and bought home my Clifford books for the boys I was thrilled to bits when they both loved them as much as I did.

One of our favorite bed time stories; especially now leading up to Halloween is Clifford's Halloween ! Being in the mood for all things Halloween right now I thought it was perfect timing to share this little treasure with you all!

This year the boys are so excited about Halloween and plan to go trick or treating with their friends; and of course their mum and dad!  Archer keeps asking me to buy a 'big pumpkin' so we can carve it up for the night....being Australian we are not too familiar with the art of pumpkin carving so I have looked up the internet for some help! Kaboose have a great range of crafts, treats, food and activities to do in preparation for Halloween!

Where the Wild Things Are 

Where the Wild Things Are by director Spike Jones, opens in cinemas October 16th! After a long anticipated launch it is finally here. I don't know if you have all been watching and re-watching the trailers , but I have with my twin boys and finally the other day we got to see the final trailer at the movies! The boys were transfixed and are now even more excited about seeing it at the movies!

Based on the timeless classic by Maurice Sendak Where the Wild Things Are is going to be a movie not to be missed.

Junior Society recently posted a blog on Terrible Yellow Eyes which is worth a look; where artist Cory Godbey illustrated a tribute to this magical classic.

Monster Couture bean bags would not be here if it were not for the influence of Where the Wild Things Are! Our Monsters; Bat Star and Captain Shaggy have been inspired by these wonderful Wild Thing; thank you Maurice Sendak for your amazing talent and childhood memories.

Monster Couture is Alive!

Welcome to our new Monster Couture web site and the first of many exciting blog posts.
I thought this first post should really introduce you to our new brand, the team and philosophy behind our range.

Hi there, I am Ingrid Daniell, the creative director and founder of our company Cocoon Couture Pty Ltd.

What started out as a creative out let for myself and my partner in crime Melanie McLeod is now a bustling little boutique business that provides joy and style to the little monsters who love the fresh unique product of Monster Couture .

With a need to further expand the Cocoon Couture bean bag range to accommodate the growing requests from certain little monsters in our home; Monster Couture was born.

Being mums of very energetic little monsters who love all things spooky and scary; we could see there seemed to be a little gap in the kids bean bag market for monsters; which is what our kids were asking for as they started to grow up a little.

One day Flynn and Arch drew pictures of some monsters for me; it was just gorgeous; and they asked ‘mum can you put this on a bean bag for us?'.

How could I say no! So we worked together in fine tuning the first of our exciting new Monsters for our Monster Couture bean bag range. It has been such a joy to work creatively with my boys who have really helped to bring this vision together and to life.

Monster Couture is the spiky cousin or kooky twin of our original kids bean bag brand Cocoon Couture .

Monster Couture is a is a collection of kids bean bags and accessories . This fun, spooky and kooky range range of kids bean bags features unique designs of our signature Monster Couture monsters inspired by the weird and wonderful imagination of our kids and their amazing stories and drawings!
